Laurent Segretier — Memento
Memento

MEMENTO / in collaboration with JOYCE gallery / Paris

In this exhibition, Laurent Segretier creates connections between cyberspatiality and the transformation of social temporalities in a mute violence.

The strange portraits of Rick Genest, nicknamed ‘Zombie Boy’ are juxtaposed with images of women with standardized faces and bodies, symbols of dematerialized sexuality.

With his masterful digital manipulations, the artist Laurent Segretier makes ‘Zombie Boy’ literally explode, but by allowing him to retain the elegance of his posture, the ‘zombie’ is transformed into a fallen angel. On another side, by inflicting his pixel treatment on these women exposing themselves, the artist makes us realize the extreme superficiality of this promised paradise.

The creation of an imaginary city can be seen in the video installation ‘Memento’, whose sound design is the fruit of a collaboration between the artist and composer TNEM. Through the shifting of pixels, the accent is placed on chaos, like a cataclysm creating a new typography, a shift of the continents, passing from destruction to creation.
